Will there be a Green Card drawing in 2022?

Each year, the U.S. State Department accepts applications for a Green Card drawing and 2020 will be no exception. In certain sites and blogs on the Internet there is a lot of speculation about the cancellation of the lottery.  We strongly disagree with this information because to cancel this program, it is necessary to make changes to the American immigration law and to date there have been no such changes.

Remember that the Green Card lottery drawing always takes place in advance. Meaning the acceptance of applications for Green Cards to be awarded in 2022, will take place in 2020. The result of the Green Card drawing for 2022 will be made available in the spring-summer of 2021.

People who have never heard of this program may want to apply for the drawing but are not sure how to participate. To participate in the lottery, you must complete an online application at the U.S. Department of State website. The application should be filled out  clearly and truthfully. You can apply for the 2022 Green Card  drawing during  October through November 2020. The exact filing time for the 2022 Green Card  will be available by the end of September 2020.

Green Card lottery participants must meet  the following requirements:

1. Be a native of a country which can participate in the lottery;
2. Have completed secondary education or have 2 years of work experience over the last 5 years;
3. Have a valid passport;
4. Have no criminal record;
5. Have no disease that could harm American society.

Because a computer randomly chooses the winning applicants, no one is guaranteed a “win”. Even if you are chosen, you may still be disqualified for the following reasons:

• When applying for the drawing, the application was filled out with errors. The most common mistake is sending the same photo every year. If you apply for the lottery every year, you should send a new photo each time;
• The applicant was found to have provided untrue information about himself, his family or relatives who live in the United States;
• The applicant did not provide the complete package of documents.
• During the visa interview, the applicant was unable to convince the visa officer that he and his family would not be dependent, in any way, on any government financial assistance upon arrival in the United States.
