How do I reapply for a U.S. visa without being interviewed?

Posted by Avisa:   26.11.2019

It is possible for Ukrainian citizens to reapply for a visa or renew their visa to the United States without being interviewed at the embassy. The first step is to create an account on the Registration web page and fill out the preliminary questionnaire, pay the application fee and fill in the visa application DS-160.  Then, you will be required to send the following documents to the Embassy by mail.

  • a new photo,
  • a valid passport
  • previous passport (if it was stamped with an American visa)
  • the interview waiver confirmation letter.
  • a copy of the DS-160 visa application confirmation page.

This is the minimum package of documents that is required but depending on the visa category and your individual case, it may change.

It is important to know if you have lost your passport with an American visa or changed your surname, you can also reapply without appearing in person at the embassy. Children under the age of 14 and people over the age of 80 can also use the visa renewal procedure.

There are a few requirements that you must meet in order to be able to reapply for a visa without an interview:

  • your previous visa is still valid or has ended no more than 12 months ago;
  • you are a citizen of Ukraine
  • you apply for the same type of visa.

Using this procedure, you need to know that the consular fee will be the same amount as before, for example for a B1/B2 visa will cost $160. For children and people over the age of 80 the fee is the same.

Be aware that the embassy may call you for an interview, having previously contacted you to schedule a convenient date. If this occurs, don’t assume that anything is wrong.  The consular office may want to take fingerprints again or need to clarify some details before renewing your visa.  However, if the embassy learns about violations of your visa in the U.S., it could lead to denial and sometimes a ban on entry into the country.  Some examples of these violations are:

  • working while on a tourist visa;
  • staying for more than 6 months for no reason;
  • legal problems.
