Posted by Avisa:   07.10.2020

Like many things in 2020, the situation with visas in the United States is very confusing and difficult. The pandemic has caused changes in people's lives, how we do business, and the work of embassies. To date, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has canceled all interviews for many categories of visas.  Furthermore, there is no clear indication as to  when the embassy will resume business.  Consequently, you may want to know if there is any way to get a visa to the U.S. in 2020?

There is a way, but only for those applicants who previously have had nonimmigrant visa  to the US. This means that if an applicant has had a U.S. visa which expired less than 24 months ago (previously it was 12 months),  has the right to use the U.S. visa renewal procedure without being interviewed. This opportunity will be  valid until 12-31-2020.

The procedure for renewing a visa to the U.S. during coronavirus has not changed.  To start the process, it is necessary to:

  1. Pay the consular fee at Raiffeisen Bank Aval;
  2. Fill out the DS-160 visa application
  3. Register on the website ustraveldoc. (copy and paste the full URL). , (After registering you should receive a confirmation letter containing the procedure of updating the visa);
  4. Collect a package of documents that will include:
  • Stating the purpose of the trip;
  • Documents confirming your permanent residence in the country of residence;
  • Financial documents;
  • Statement of monthly income;
  • New photo, size 5 by 5 cm;
  • A valid passport;
  • Passport with a previous visa to the United States.

  • The online US visa extension is a unique opportunity to get a US visa without an interview. However, to use it, the application must meet some requirements: Have Ukrainian citizenship;
  • Apply for the same type of visa as the previous visa;
  • Have a visa to the United States hasn’t been denied or, if it had been, then the visa was issued after a refusal;
  • Your last visa application was not subject to administrative review.
  • You have no criminal record.

We also want to remind you that:

If you have a valid visa in the U.S. but your child (under the age of 14) does not have one, you can also use the procedure of renewing the visa for your child.

If your visa in the U.S. has ended and you wish to renew it, you can apply for yourself and your child under the age of 14, with one package.  However,  you must fill out the DS-160 visa application and pay the consular fee to the embassy  separately.
