Travelling with your family is always fun and can provide life-long memories. The Canadian Embassy welcomes families with children who wish to visit their country.

A visa to Canada for a child is almost no different than a visa for adults. The term the visa will be issued for will depend on the decision of the visa officer. As a rule, the validity of the visa is equal, in duration, to the validity of a foreign passport. However, the cost of a visa to Canada for a child under 14 years of age is lower than for an adult.  It will cost $100 CA. Children under 14 years of age do not need to provide biometric data.

The procedure for obtaining for a visa to Canada for a child is identical as for an adult. It is necessary to:

  1. Fill out the application form.
  2. Collect the necessary package of documents.
  3. Translate documents into English or French.
  4. Download the documents into your personal online account.
  5. Pay the consular fee.
  6. Wait for a decision from the embassy.

List of documents for obtaining a visa to Canada for children:

  • A passport.
  • A Birth Certificate.
  • If the child goes to kindergarten or attends school, a Certificate from the place of study.
  • A sponsorship letter from both parents or from one of parents about financial support.
  • Financial documents of the sponsor for example: bank statements, certificate from work or tax return.
  • If a child is accompanied only by one of the parents, notarized consent from the second parent/guardian for the child's trip is required. If a child is traveling with a third party, it is necessary to have notarized consent from both parents.

As a rule, a visa for children to Canada is requested by parents who already have a visa to Canada and have plans to travel with their children. If a family is planning a joint trip, they should apply for all visas at the same time. In both cases, the visa officer who will make a decision about a visa to Canada always pays attention to details as follows:

  • The family's financial ability to travel.
  • The employment prospects of a child's parents in Ukraine (for example: a high-level position, work in a large company or business).
  • Joint trips abroad.
  • Parents do not have criminal records.

If the child's parents have already traveled to Canada and have violated some rules of stay, unfortunately, the children will be denied a visa.
