How do I get a visa to the UK in 2020?

Posted by Avisa:   27.01.2020

Currently, the UK is one of the most sought-after countries for travel, business meetings, and study. When planning a trip to England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland you need to apply for a visa to the UK and the first thing to do is determine the type of visa.  What follows are the different types of visa.

  • Tourist visa - issued if a person has the purpose of tourism.  It can be individual tourism or as part of an organized group.
  • Business visa - required if you have a scientific or business event planned, such as a seminar, conference, symposium, or exhibition. Also, if you have a meeting with business partners or need to solve business-related issues, you need to apply for this type of visa.
  • Guest visa – for those with relatives or friends who legally reside in the UK and will send you an invitation to visit them.

As a rule, when people apply for the above types of visas, the British Embassy issues a single visa such as Visitor Visa.

When planning to study in the UK for 6 months or more you will be required to get a Student visitor visa.

If you are transiting through England, you will need to apply for a Transit visa.

A visa for Ukrainians to the UK will also improve your visa history if you plan to apply for a visa to the United States or Canada.

Once you have decided on the type of visa you must complete the visa application online on the website of the British Embassy. In the questionnaire it is necessary to enter truthful information about yourself, about your income, loved ones and so on. This is a mandatory step you can't miss. The visa questionnaire must be filled out for everyone: children, adults, and elderly people. The questionnaire can be complex for some people and you may not know how to answer.  Also, in an additional field you should describe in English a detailed plan of your trip; what places you will visit, where you will stay (in the hotel or a private home), for what period of the time and so on. If, in your situation, there are nuances about your visit, they should be entered into the questionnaire. When the questionnaire is saved and filed, you must pay the consular fee and sign up for a fingerprint record to be taken at the Visa Center.

The next step is to collect a package of documents, as well as to translate them into English. There are two ways to submit documents:

  • to UK visa center for an additional fee;
  • online by uploading all your translated, scanned documents to the website.

On the appointed day, you must report to the visa center for the taking of biometric data and submit your documents or only your passport if you have chosen to submit your documents online. All applicants must report to the visa center.

The standard time for reviewing documents by the embassy is 15 working days.  If you need an urgent visa, you must pay an additional fee of 250 euros, in which case the documents will be reviewed in 5 working days.

A visa is issued for either 6 months, 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years. You may request the time you want for the visa, but when deciding, the embassy may issue a visa for less than your request. The cost of visas (consular fee) are as follows:

  • 6 months - £95,
  • 2 years - £361,
  • 5 years - £655,
  • 10 years - £822

A benefit to getting a visa to the UK is that it will allow you to travel to Ireland if you so desire.

So, let's sum up. In order to get a visa to the UK, you must meet certain requirements:

  • Decide on the purpose of the visit and type of visa
  • Prove that you have enough compelling reasons to return to Ukraine
  • Prove the financial ability to pay for a trip, as well as a permanent income
  • Collect, translate and submit documents and fill out the questionnaire

Therefore, if you need a visa you should consider these factors in advance.   If anything is not clear, seek advice from a professional to avoid making mistakes that can lead to the denial of a visa.
