How to get a US visa for Russian citizens in 2021?

Posted by Avisa:   08.07.2021

The situation in Russia has developed in such a way that it is not possible to obtain a nonimmigrant visa to the United States. From 05/12/2021, the US Embassy in Russia has suspended the provision of services for these categories of visas. The US Embassy in Russia will only be able to process a limited number of immigration  applications, but only if these are emergencies.

After July 31, 2021, the US Embassy in Moscow will stop accepting consular fees for nonimmigrant visas. Fees already paid will be valid until 09/30/2022. Fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred for a visa to another country.

What should the citizens of Russia do in this situation? Indeed, tourist visas to the United States, student visas, exchange visas, work visas, and so on, also fall under the category of non-immigrant visas. Before covid -19, Russians could apply for a US visa anywhere in the world where there is a US consulate.  But now, due to the pandemic, the situation with the borders and with the US Embassies isn't ordinary.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, US Embassies around the world provide limited services for citizens of the countries in which they are  located. US Embassies don’t have enough quotes  for non-residents to get an interview. Since June 2021, many US embassies located in EU countries have added information to their official pages that only citizens of the country in which the embassy is located can schedule  an interview. For example, on the website of the US Embassy in Poland, you can find the following notice: "The US Embassy in Warsaw and the US Consulate General in Krakow currently only accept visa applications from Polish citizens and / or residents of Poland."

Nevertheless, the US Embassy in Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Israel don’t provide such information on their sites. Therefore, it is theoretically possible to start the process of obtaining a visa to the United States for Russian citizens in these countries. The only issue is you can’t find free dates at the Embassy for non-residents. You should also understand that you can only find out about free dates for an interview after paying the consular fee.
